HAS ANXIETY BECOME A BARRIER IN YOUR LIFE?

Updated: May 30

Sports Anxiety

Do you often feel restless or on edge?

When you are anticipating an important event—such as a performance or presentation—are you overwhelmed by your anxious feelings?

Anxiety can be a powerful force - it can take over our thoughts and dictate how we perform both on and off the field.

With the right skills, mindsets, and reframing your anxiety as fuel rather than an obstacle to performance - you have something tangible you can use to tackle this challenge head-on!

ANXIETY’S EFFECTS ARE HARD TO LIVE WITH

ANXIETY SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:
  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling disorganized

  • Indecisiveness

  • Excessive worry

  • Troubling/negative thoughts that tailspin

WHEN SITUATIONS TRIGGER INTENSE ANXIETY, YOU MIGHT SUFFER:
  • Panic attacks

  • An impending sense of doom or lack of control

  • Sweat and shake uncontrollably

  • Struggle to catch your breath

  • Feel like nothing will ever be OK again.

ANXIETY IS PHYSICALLY EXHAUSTING:
  • Making it difficult to fall—or stay—asleep

  • Causing fatigue throughout the day

  • Causing an accelerated heartbeat, tightness in your chest, and tension in your muscles.

ANXIETY COULD BE AFFECTING YOUR SOCIAL LIFE AND LEAD TO IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR.
  • When you can’t control your intense feelings, it may lead to irritability or outbursts you may later regret.

  • Perhaps you avoid situations altogether because of the distress they cause you.

  • This can negatively affect your relationships if loved ones think you’re avoiding them when in fact it’s your anxiety that’s keeping you away!

OVERCOMING ANXIETY IS POSSIBLE!

FORTUNATELY, TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO BETTER MANAGE YOUR SYMPTOMS SO YOU CAN FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN.

ANXIETY IS CAUSED BY A VARIETY OF CONCERNS,

BOTH BIG AND SMALL

Work Anxiety

A survey conducted by the Mental Health Foundation found that 64 percent of Americans felt anxious due to the pandemic. Even before Covid-19, anxiety disorders were the most common mental illness in the United States and the top reason why people sought help.

MACRO LEVEL CAUSES
  • Covid

  • Climate Crisis

  • Systemic Racism

MICRO LEVEL CAUSES
  • Job

  • Competition

  • Relationships

  • Life circumstances What’s happening on the macro level sometimes exacerbates how we respond to situations on the micro level, intensifying our level of distress.

WHY WE DON’T SEEK HELP

Sometimes we don’t recognize what the contributing factors are that aggravate our symptoms. And even when we realize certain people and situations can make things worse for us, we don’t know how to set proper boundaries to help ourselves. Perhaps we choose to ignore anxiety, praying it will go away on its own or we tolerate it as best we can.

SADLY, WE MAY NOT REALIZE THAT ANXIETY IS TREATABLE; INSTEAD, WE BELIEVE THIS IS JUST THE WAY WE ARE.

However, anxiety is manageable. With treatment, you can learn tangible coping skills to help control your symptoms and gain the confidence that you don’t have to live with crippling anxiety anymore.

COACHING WILL HELP FOSTER SELF-UNDERSTANDING

Because we aren’t taught social-emotional skills in school, we learn our psychosocial cues from watching those around us.

  • Unfortunately, this often leads to the same unhelpful patterns and behaviors being passed down from generation to generation.

I help clients with varying degrees of anxiety every day. I aim to pry open your ingrained perspectives so we can examine them through a new lens.

  • Working together will give you a safe and confidential place to talk about your anxiety and how it’s impacting your life. I will listen to you and validate your feelings without judgment, permitting you to be vulnerable with yourself so you can learn and grow. By normalizing anxiety,

I WILL HELP DISPEL THE BELIEF YOU MAY HAVE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU.
